Oakey is a country town of some 4,000 residents on the Darling Downs, just west of the inland city of Toowoomba, in Queensland,  Australia. The Darling Downs is a rich agricultural area, producing grain, cotton, oilseeds, and other crops.  Intensive cattle feedlots, and  grasslands supply two meat processors - Oakey Abattoir and Beef City.  Several productive dairy farms are also located around the  region.  Grain merchants, stockfeed manufacturers and agricultural machinery manufacturers are well established in the region, as is  the transport industry. There are significant coal reserves in the region, with New Hope Coal operating the New Acland Coal Mine north of Oakey.  Oakey is  on the eastern edge of the Surat Basin, where the coal seam gas (CSG) industry is rapidly expanding. The broad plains are home to the Oakey Army Aviation Training Centre, a prominent military helicopter training facility, and home of  the Museum of Australian Army Flying. The Jondaryan Wooldhed open air working museum, just west of Oakey, highlights the rich heritage of the area, offering a glimpse of  life in the past, and hosting a range of heritage focused events.  The Oakey Historical Museym chronicles history of the area as well,  open to the public on Sunday afternoons. Oakey Has primary and high school education, good shopping facilities, services, sporting clubs, community organisations and  churches that offer opportunities for many and varied interests and needs.  Toowoomba is not far away for those extra attractions. Oakey is part of the Toowoomba Regional Council, boasting a Council Service Centre, Library, Swim Centre and Cultural Centre. Oakey has its own local newspaper - the Oakey Champion - named in honour of famous racehouse “Bernborough”, who was bred in  the area, and is immortalised with a life-sized bronze statue in the centre of town.  Two low-frequency FM radio stations broadcast into the town - Tourist Info 88, and Vision Radio 87.6. Oakey also features a well maintained showground where the annual Oakey Agricultural Show is held.  It is on these ground that  T.A.D.O.M.S will host the 7th Queensland Heritage Rally in October 2016.
